    Quick Impressions:

    + Only 80 MSP
    + Quite nice graphics
    + Overall good handling

    – No online functions at all?
    – It seems that the normal break is too strong/sensitive (I almost make full stops always)
    – In the pre-race overview “Weather” and the condition are merged together
    – In e.g. class E there are seem to be five cups with different races/tracks, but no indication of the individual tracks (so I don’t know if I already did/won all tracks in cup 1 etc.)

  • WaaghMan says:

    * We decided to focus on the single player mode and mechanics, so no, no online functions by now.
    * We’ll reduce a bit the brake power on slow cars :).
    * Are you playing on an SD display? That shouldn’t happen on HD displays.
    * We’ll check if we can show in some way if you had already completed/won an specific event. It depends on the class, but there are between 15 and 40 events per class.

    Hello Milkstone!

Just bought your last game, “Little Racer Street”!
I just tried the demo a bit and before I even saw the “buy or leave screen”, I bought the complete version.
Almost everything is perfect. Handling, camera, upgrade system, graphics & sounds…

I will only complain for a couple of things :
    > I think we need some (trophy) icon on the “already finished/won races” (like Homicite said)
    > I think you need to show if a car class will change with a specific upgrade, because right now, we can’t see if that nice “engine upgrade” will push our little baby to an upper class and so, we are forced to buy and downgrade if we want to keep a specific car in a specific class.
    > It’s hard sometimes to see our car on the “crowd”, maybe an option to change nitro’s color or something would be appropriate?

Thanks for reading & keep up the good work guys!

  • WaaghMan says:

Glad you liked the game! As for your feedback:

    * We’re definitely going to add some way to tell if you have already raced/won an event on the race select screen, there has been lots of feedback about this.
    * It should be warning you already! At the right of the upgrade screen, the class icon will change if an upgrade causes the car to go up/down a class, and also explicitly tell you before confirming the purchase.
    * We are aware of this. We couldn’t think of anything that could be clear enough (arrows, neon lights) when in the crowd, but we’ll try an outline approach and see how it goes.

  • HomiSite says:

1.) Online: You said on Twitter, too, that LRS focuses on singleplayer, that’s okay (although a pity, esp. when its predecessor had multiplayer). But I was surprised that there are also no online highscores (= e.g. lap times)

2.) Braking: I just reached class D and I’m still testing braking. The normal one it too strong, as said, and the handbrake seems to have a too big, eh, drift circle? At the moment, I usually don’t brake at all (just releasing gas shortly).

3.) Text merging: Yes, I have an SDTV => http://i44.tinypic.com/ebd3wh.jpg

4.) The cups overview is as said confusing: When I reach another car class (now I have two “E” cups left – probably ones where I didn’t race/win all tracks – and three “D”). What does the numbers (1-5) mean anyways?

5.) Upgrade indicator: Yes, there is an indicator for a class change as WaaghMan said – the class symbol (“E” etc.) will change when you select a new up-/downgrade (without buying it).

6.) Regarding car updates: At least in the lower classes (E, D), you can’t really upgrade, can you? With the start money, you can purchase the best E car and after winning 20 (?) E cups, you get the best D car for free – and both ones will go up a class with any upgrade?

7.) Crowd overview: I usually have not these problems yet, because the camera centers more or less of your car. But as a workaround, you could customize your car with a bright colour.

8.) The snow effect seems a bit strange sometimes, like the game doesn’t manage to show the snow flakes lawyer for some splitseconds in the right time.

9.) Last point, but an important one: It’s highly irritating, that you have to release the brake/gas triggers to change from braking/reverse driving to forward driving! E.g.: I drive backwards, release the brake trigger and press gas. My car now stops faster, but won’t immediately engage! I have to release the gas trigger and press it again.

    Hello² Milkstone!

    *Great then!

*Well I saw the message “caution you’re about to change the class of your car by doing that…etc..” with all the cars I bought/used/upgrades today, except for the “lyon”. Yesterday, the first time I tried to upgrade it, it changes class without notice and I was forced to downgrade it to keep it in the class I wanted. It was my first car in the game. Can it be some kind of bug? I’ll try with another account and see if the message is shown when upgrading, with the same car of course since the beginning, just in case. 🙂

*An option to change nitro flames color, or to add neon’s lights under the car (“tuning style”) or changes lights’ colors (xenon light option? :p )

    Anyway thanks for the reply!

    Hello Homicite!

    “1.) Online”
Too bad there’s not online game, yes. But price would have been different I guess.^^ Until they had a ladder or some online mode, I’ll be happy without.

“7.) Crowd overview: I usually have not these problems yet, because the camera centers more or less of your car. But as a workaround, you could customize your car with a bright colour.”
That’s what I’m doing, but sometimes the “blur/hdr(?) effect” is strong enough to “highlight” all the cars and “hide” mine in the crowd.

    Have fun!

  • WaaghMan says:

    Thanks for the detailed points!

1.) We know! It was just a matter of time and expected sales. We are eager to continue working on the game, but the game needs enough sales to justify that. As for lap time rankings, it initially was on our todo list, but we had to remove the feature as well (There’s also an issue with online P2P sharing which could case game freezing).

2.) We’ve reduced braking power and made it variable depending on your car attributes and current speed. It still brakes hard, but it wouldn’t be of much use otherwise.

3.) We’ll rework that screen to add more data about the event (times you have raced, etc.), we’ll fix that as well.

4.) The events are not the same! After each race (or purchasing a car), 5 new events are picked, for random classes you should be able to drive. We’re going to add an event number to make this more clear.

The 1-5 numbers are just to make it more clear that you’re changing the current event (when there are only class E events, all the icons are the same).

6.) It depends on which car you have. The Trio is already at max performance for class E, but the Micro has plenty of room for upgrades without going up one class.

8.) It was that ot getting a bad framerate. Snow races are pretty much in the limit regarding FPS.

9.) We’ve received some complaints of this behavior. We’ll change the way this works.

Just purchased this morning, haven’t played enough to give constuctive feedback but just want to say from what I’ve played it’s fantastic.
Have really enjoyed everything MilkStone has released to date and please keep developing for XBLIG.
You guys should have had been published on XBLA by now!

  • VashTheHoly says:

Thank YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t even play the demo I just Got it !! 😀 I loved the first one and I know ill love this one two YES a new racing game toke you guys long enough !! 😀

  • DrMacca says:

Just finished playing an hour long session with this game and absolutely loved it! Reminds me of an updated version of the old-school MicroMachines games on the NES.

Brilliant stuff – will definitely be checking out your other titles.

If I do have one piece of constructive criticism it’s that the demo track is a bit too hectic for the first time playing the game. I love the style so I bought the full game and found the first few E class races much more enjoyable and a nice intro.

Please keep up the good work!

  • Bertie says:

Just bought this game this morning after trying the trial last night. Incredible for only 80 MS points. I look forward to getting stuck in but I fell for the handling straight away. Well done to all involved for crafting such an enjoyable game.

If I had to request anything it would be the inclusion of local split screen play (it would make this amazing) and a mode like that in Mashed where the losers drop off the screen.

    Thanks again 😀

  • Tim says:

I just wanted to let you folks know that this is one gamer that is thoroughly impressed with Little Racers. It’s the first game that’s ever made me feel like a kid again. Seriously, when I play it, it’s like I’m 8 again with all my Hotwheels and Matchbox cars strewn across my bedroom floor…only better!
There’s so much I love about this game that I’ll need to make a list.
    1. Beautiful graphics!
    2. Great physics…car handling is superb!
    3. Nice sound effects(hearing the other car honk when I cut them off is a nice touch)
    4. Cool car customization options.
    5. Nice track layout.
    6. Weather effects…WOW!
    7. A dollar? Holy cow dudes! With just a couple tweaks, this game is worth 10 times that…easily!(I hope ya’ll sell a million!)
Well, that’s my 2 cents. Thanks for an awesome game and for reminding me that I was once a kid who enjoyed little cars and apparently still do.
P.S. Just curious, but how long does it take to make a game like this? It seems like a lot of work
    went into it.

  • Soy1Bonus says:

It took us 2 months. Most of it was done just by the two of us (3 or 4 cars were made by an external artist).

But they were 2 months of really hard work 🙂

  • WaaghMan says:

Thanks for the tip. We feel that way as well. We’re going to decrease the class level of the trial race, probably to D or C.

  • Bertie says:

I’d just like to add that a Time Trial mode would also be an excellent addition too (if you ever wish to extend the game or build a sequel in any way). It would be a great way to practice, learn tracks and just try to shave seconds off your times etc.

  • WaaghMan says:

    Hi Bertie,

We’re sorry but local multiplayer isn’t going to be added anytime soon (technical and visibility problems would be huge). Time Trial, it could be, although it’s not a priority right now.

  • Andy says:

WOW ..Thank you for the online multiplayer . Didnt even know you had done an update . You have made a great game perfect . Give yourselves a pat on the back from me . Rating : * * * * *

  • This is the best top down racer on the 360! Absolutely incredible that it’s only 80 points! The multiplayer is superb, but this is the most fun I’ve ever had in single player on a top down racer!

I already have the first Little Racers (which was a staple for our Friday night Xbox sessions!), Motor Heat (which reminds me of Atari 2600 classic Enduro) and Infinity Danger. I’ve just bought Firing Range, which is great fun also, only too happy to support Milkstone, great job guys, thank you!
